Is this the worlds best foundation? Putting Vitalumiere Aqua on the spotlight

In my never ending search for the perfect foundation I was delighted to be able to try Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua foundation with SPF 15*. Billed as a ultra light skin perfecting makeup it looks perfect so here I am putting it to the test. See below for the finished result:

Chanel Inimitable Mascara: It's a Designer Icon but does it give you lashes to die for?

Chanel Inimitable claims to add volume, length, curl and define your lashes.

So with the mascara* at my fingertips I put it to the ultimate test.

The mascara comes in a very simple black tube with very little imagery; other then a gold border and the chanel trademark. Inside the box is a little information leaflet folded up neatly; it comes in several different languages so it's suitable for users all over the world.

The mascara wand is quite small so it was perfect for getting right into the corner of my eye without poking it, allowing me to coat even the tiniest of lashes. I applied around two to three coats on both my bottom and top lashes before I felt they were covered sufficiently.

On reflection I felt that my eyelashes were certainly more defined after application, with little to no clumping my lashes looked seperated. The length of my lashes were probably 3x those pre mascara, which I felt was on par with most mascaras. I often find that many mascaras that aim to curl your lashes fall flat of their promise; with Initmitable there was certainly a small curling effect namely around the edges of my lashes. On a final note my lashes were full and volumised but could probably due with another quick boost.

When a mascara aims to perform several functions it has a lot to live up to and I felt that Chanel Inimitable mascara lived up to many of its claims. With excellent definition, small amount of curl, no clumping and slight volumising it gives eyes that bit of extra power to stand out among the sea of false lashes.

I'll give it a 4/5

Your Beauty Concern Solved: How Do I make my eyes stand out when wearing glasses?

Dear Kathy...
How can I make my eyes stand out when I wear glasses?

For those that wear glasses it can be difficult sometimes for people to see past the glasses to the pretty eyes behind. There are a few simple steps that can be done to lessen the effect of glasses.

Firstly try to get as small, streamlined pair of spectacles as possible. There are many shapes and sizes available in shops like Specsavers now that almost minimise the idea that youre wearing glasses at all.

The model above is the rimless 117 design available on the website. As you can see the lenses are pretty much transparent, and only the arms are visible.

Once you've decided on the right glasses the next step is to experiement with your makeup to make your eyes stand otu as much as possible behind your spectacles. Many people believe you should match your eyeshadow to your eye colour but this is a common misconception. For your eyes to really stand out there needs to be a contrast of colours to make your eyes 'pop'.
  • Blue eyes should wear colours like Mocha brown
  • Green eyes purple or green
  • Brown eyes silver or purple
  • Hazel eyes differ according to the intensity of the hazel shade. If you have greener hazel try purple or green, if you have browner hazel try purple and finally if you have golder hazel try dark grey
You should finish your eyeshadow off with a glittery eyeliner that slightly contrasts with the eyeshadow you applied. For example with pink eyeshadow try a sparkly purple, the juxtaposition of colours will attract attention to eye area in a good way.

Try to keep the rest of your makeup as natural as possible; neutral foundation, lips and a warm blush colour. That way people's eyes will be drawn instantly to your eye area but they will no longer be looking at your glasses, they'll be seeing how pretty your eyes are for the first time.

Create the perfect summer hair

When you've got a full day relaxing on the beach ahead of you, making your hair perfect really isn't a priority.

The easiest way for low maintenace beach hair is a curly do that will stay in for the rest of the day leaving you to do what you do best - sunbathe!

When on holiday in Spain I liked nothing better then curling my hair in the morning and having the rest of the day to soak in the sun (after i'd finished shopping!).

Step by step guide:
  1. Spray damp hair with a heat protection product such as TreSemme Heat Defence (Up to 230 degrees protection) this is very important in order to avoid damage of the hair cutitcle
  2. Heat up your straightening products, doesn't have to be GHD's can be anything
  3. Slowly run the straightener down each hair plain whilst twisting the appliance in on itself several times to create a ringlet look
  4. It may help to section your hair so you don't miss anything, but it's not for everyone
  5. Finally use a hair spray such as L'Oreal Elnett Satin spray. I used a limited edition version but there's plenty of holiday sized hair sprays available in the shops
  6. Relax!

Collection 2000 Bring Out a Gel Eyeliner

Gone are the days when eyeliners were only found in pen format. As the big brands experiment with gel eyeliners Collection 2000 have joined the band wagon and brought out their latest eyeliner in a gel format.

The gel eyeliners have the same premise as a very small paint pot and the Collection 2000 gel eyeliner comes in a box with a small application brush.Whilst the eyeliner looks quite firm (like mousse) it applies onto the brush easily and a little really does go a long way.

I felt the brush was quite thick and lacked a pintpoint nib so the line was a lot thicker then I would've hoped for. The eyeliner is very long lasting and as the evening draws in its still as vivid as it was when I first applied it.

The gel eyeliner is a great alternative to a Kohl eyeliner but it's certainly a lot more tricky to get used to applying liner with a little brush. However if you're willing to give it a go it's a great long lasting product that does just a good a job as a tradional liner.

I'd give it a 3/5

Advantages
  • A little goes a long way so this little pot will last a long time
  • Gives off a strong black line
Disadvantages
  • Applying with a small brush may be tricky for some people
  • You can't store it as easy as you can a pencil liner
  • The thick ended brush means the line isn't as precise as you may envision

Barry M: Wink Eyeliner

If you loved your felt tips as a child you'll love this new format eyeliner from Barry M. Designed like a felt tip pen, the eyeliner has fantastically bright pink packaging and a eye slogan with black wording.

With a ball top point it's very easy to line both the bottom and top lashes and you don't end up with black smudges all down your face. The liner goes on quite easily but I did feel in places it seemed slightly stiff and the ink came out very light. The wide nib means that it's perfect for really over the top winged edges - great for nights out!

The gorgeous pink packaging and creativity of the eyeliner means it's a great tool to have in any girls makeup box.

I'll give it a 4/5

Advantages
  • Gorgeous girly packaging
  • Has a thick felt tip like point which is good for creating long winged lines
  • The sharp point means it doesn't need to be sharpened and lines both top and bottom lashes easily
Disadvantages
  • Like a felt tip, this eyeliner is sure to dry out if the lid is left off!
  • I felt it was a bit stiff in places and I had to draw over the line twice to get a strong colour
