VO5 Styling products review - Volumising and defining effects #Cbias

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

VO5, the UK's No.1 Styling brand, have a fantastic range of style products aimed at making hair look fabulous. Whether you want to give your flat hair a bit of volume or want that quiff to stay rock hard, VO5 have a product for you.

In conjunction with Collection Bias I found three fantastic VO5 products that worked well with my hair.

VO5 Tame and Shine Spray £3.89 from Boots aims to give a salon finish to dry hair.

                                                         before
My hair is typically pretty straight but can sometimes be quite dull or with a slight wave that straighteners can't remove.

The product is designed to be used on dry hair and used in combination with your straightening product.

The Tame and Shine product uses heat defence technology to transform your hair into sleek polished salon locks. After use there were no fly aways and  each cuticle was defined and glossy.

The performance of VO5 Tame and Shine Spray was remarkably effective in transforming dull hair into a stunning waterfall of shiny, ultra straight hair. The product is easy to use, and can be used with any heat product avoiding expensive maintenance trips to the salon. For that reason I give it 5/5.

Beach hair is seen as laid back and sexy but taking a dip in the sea in this weather isn't many people's idea of fun. VO5 have created Give Me Texture Dry Texturising spray to give your hair the sea treatment without so much as dipping your toe in the water.

Perfect for dry hair, the product which is £3.89 from Boots, has sea salt incorporated into the ingredients to help create authentic tousled waves.
                                                           Before

Keeping the can 30cm away from my head I sprayed the product liberally onto my  hair, making sure to catch both the top and under section. After applying I used my fingers to scrunch and tousle each lock to help create that laid back beach look.

Considering I sprayed the product onto straight hair I feel it's done very well to infuse volume and natural looking waves. I'd imagine if the product was sprayed onto just blow dried hair the tousled look would be increased. For its ability to transform straight hair into laid back beach goddess I give it 5/5

VO5 Plump it up £2.61 from Boots, is a volume spray designed to work with your hair to create volume when your hair lacks that natural oomph.

Used on wet hair I sprayed the product all over the roots, top and bottom, through my layers and along the lengths. After applying I blow dried my hair upside down to help work with the product to increase the volume created.

I felt the product worked to some extent but gave more of a messy look then the sleek polished look I was hoping for. Most of the volume was eliminated through straightening but I felt any volume in the roots should have been maintained.
                                                          After blow drying

The product is easy to use and has some volumising effect but it could've performed better. For that reason I give it 3/5.

VO5 have a massive range of products to offer, some offering similar effects to the products I reviewed and others working with different hair styles. You can find ranges available in Boots, Superdrug and all good Supermarkets.

Jazz up your nails with Art Deco flowers and Avon nail varnish in Noir Emerald

The gorgeous turquoise sheen of Avon Noir Emerald nailwear pro varnish was perfect as a setting for deco flowers.

The varnish has a ideal consistency which means it isn't too gloopy and only needs two coats for full coverage.

After letting each coat dry I put a little bit of polish on the back of the flowers and applied to the nail. Ideally nail glue should be used so the flowers would set properly but polish can be used as a temporary solution.

For it's quick drying solution and sparkly colour I give it 4/5

Advantages
•The turquoise colour is strong and sparkly
•The nail varnish dries relatively quickly which minimises the chance of smudging
•Each coat has a good consistency so the varnish isn't gloopy.

Disadvantages
•None that I can actively think of

The flowers can be bought from Poundland for £1 and the nail varnish online or from independent representatives.

Broadway Nails manicure in a bottle review

Broadway nails in Impress are a manicure in a bottle, with no waiting around and no drying time.

The short style nails come in a gorgeous hot pink colour and ate presented in a container shaped like a nail varnish bottle. There are enough nails for around two uses with fresh nails each time.

Within the bottle is a small nail file and a wipe which makes applying the nails easier. Outside are a set of handy instructions that make the applying process much easier, especially for newbies.

Each nail comes with a small tag on the back which makes for really easy application. The instructions advise you to lay out each nail in size so you're not fumbling around after applying a few, which is, I'm sure you'd imagine a very useful tip.

After wiping my nail with the wipe I applied each nail in turn. Once I got near the end it became very difficult to remove the tabs with the nails I'd already applied getting in the way.

On completion I have to admit my nails felt irritated which may be down to this being the first time I used false nails.

A few of the nails were a bit too big for my fingers, but they did set easily and looked pretty good.

I love the quirky design of Broadway Nail Impress manicure and really think it makes them stand out. The application process was fairly easy, apart from the end but they didnt feel that nice on my fingers.
Right hand

Left hand

As a result I would give them 3.5/5

Advantages
•Fantastic packaging
•Comes with around two uses of nails which gives it great value for money
•Easy to apply
•Pretty girly design

Disadvantages
•Slightly difficult to apply towards the end
•Made my natural nails feel really odd

Avon Supershock eyeliner in Flash

Avon Supershock gel eyeliner in Flash is a pretty in pink eyeliner that's perfect for those off duty days.

The eyeliner comes in a smart black box and is instantly identifiable as a pink eyeliner by its pink tip.

The liner glides on really easily thanks to its gel formulation and is small enough to fit in the smallest corner. I applied the product on both my top and bottom lash line, and experienced all day coverage for the top lashes but fading on the bottom by the end of the day.

Flash is quite a light colour so it may wash some skin colours out. I wore it with a lavender eyeshadow for a cute Spring look.

Overall a good product that's perfect for the days you don't fancy vamping up your makeup.

I give it 3/5

Advantages
•Fairly long lasting
•Great for off duty looks like going to the beach
•Would be good for those new to using eyeliner

Disadvantages
•The colour is pretty faint so it might not be suitable for everyone

Avon can be bought from independent Avon representatives and online at Avon

Avon Pressed Powder in Translucent review

Avon Color Trend pressed powder in Translucent is a budget buy perfect for any pocket.

It comes in a pretty pink box with bold colours and branding. Inside the powder is set in a traditional compact and comes with a very girly pink sponge for application.

The powder felt quite creamy which is unusual as it didn't state that it was a cream to powder product. I normally just apply powder to the T Zone area as it's one of the oiliest areas of the face. Whilst there were only two colours to pick from I thought Translucent would be ok for my fair skin. However I felt the colour was darker then it should've been and gave quite a orange tidemark.

Avon pressed powder in Translucent is a reasonably priced product which helps in blotting oily spots. On the downside the colour wasn't as fair as it should have been, especially with only two colours in the collection.
After application

I give it 2/5

Advantages
•Comes in pretty feminine packaging
•The included makeup sponge has a gorgeous pink colour, perfect for the girly girl
•Fantastic budget priced product

Disadvantages
•The colour wasn't as fair as I thought and left parts of my skin looking orange

MUA Blush Perfection cream blusher in Bittersweet

MUA blush perfection in Bittersweet is a delicate pink cream blusher.

The blusher can be applied easily with the tip of the finger and rubbed gently into the skin.

With MUA Blush Perfection I found that the cream seems to sink straight into the skin and you need to apply a lot of blusher to see a visible result.

The colour is really subtle even after several applications and gives a 'just pinched' look, rather then a rosey glow.

As the colour is quite light it does fade quite quickly over the period of the day and will need to be reapplied.

On that basis I give MUA Blush Perfection 3/5

Before

After

Advantages
•As a cream blusher MUA Blush Perfection is suitable for most skins, young and old
•Good if you want a more natural blush
•Reasonably priced product

Disadvantages
•The applied colour is very faint which isn't suitable for everyone
•The colour fades quite quickly over the period of the day

Avon hero products: Avon Supershock gel eyeliner in black

Avon Super Shock gel eyeliner is a versatile liner that offers comfort and ease of use.

Enclosed in a Avon black box the product remains secure until it's open.

The product glides on with ease and doesn't scratch the delicate eye area like Kohl liners.

When I first applied the eyeliner the tip of the pencil fell off which did concern me. However unlike a lot of gel liners, Avon Super Shock liner can be sharpened using a traditional pencil sharpener.

The liner applies pretty accurately and has a dark black appearance which really outlines the eyes.

There was a small amount of transfer from the just applied eyeliner to under my eyes but this was quite minimal. Once it had dried there was no smudging at all.

Avon Supershock eyeliner is a very handy little tool for those not keen on liquid or kohl eyeliners. It has the same effect as a liquid without the effort of warming up a kohl liner so it doesn't hurt the eye.

I give it 4/5

Just after applying

With eyeshadow on

From a distance

Advantages
•Really easy to use -glides on like a dream
•Has a strong black colour which frames the eyes perfectly
•Can be easily sharpened if the point gets blunt
•Reasonably priced Avon product
•The gel format is the perfect alternative to liquid or kohl

Disadvantages
•There was a slight smudging after applying the liner
