House of Rush Hair Styling Masterclass Goody Bag

Bloggers at the Rush event left with a bumper packed goody bag full of hair products and a few little extras. To see what happened at the event head over here. Here's a sneak peek into the contents.

1. Redken Diamond Oil
Redken Diamond Oil is designed to give hair amazing diamond like shine. I saw this product on the shelves in the store and it looked really pretty with its pink packaging. I'm excited to see if it gives me the shine it claims to do! Keep checking in for a full review.

2. Redken Frizz Dismiss shampoo
Packed with Brazilian pracaxi oil and aquatoril the Frizz Dismiss shampoo offers extra protection for frizz prone hair. Generally my hair is quite easy to manage so I probably won't benefit too much from this one.

3.Redken Quick Dry Hairspray
This is a instant finishing hair spray which is designed to give a quick dry finish. Often hair sprays can leave hair feeling a little damp for a while so I'm assuming this misses out that process. I don't use hair spray too often but it's always a good tool to have.

4. Redken One  United
This is a all in one multi benefit hair treatment with 25 benefits. I've seen hair products offering 10 hair benefits, but 25 is something else. Some of the benefits include frizz protection, heat protection, added shine and more. With this many benefits I wonder if my hair will look like something from a hair advert, well we can dream!

5. Rush oyster card holder
Pretty self explanatory, a place to store your oyster card. You could also use it for putting your debit cards in or any other cards you use regularly.

6. Decleor Hydra Floral Masque Expert
A face mask that is designed to plump and moisturise your skin. Perfect for a pampering treatment.

7. Skinade Skincare supplement
Skinade is a food supplement that has been formulated to help restore your skin from within.

House of Rush Hair Styling Masterclass Blogger event

To launch their exclusive new styling station House of Rush invited a lucky group of bloggers to try a 'done' or 'undone' look.

The event was held at their Picadilly salon which offered a bright, warm salvation from the cold of the night. Everyone was really friendly and welcoming and there was a spread of vegan cold pressed juices and cupcakes to greet us.

The new styling stations which were being launched that night are to encourage people to learn how to style their own hair. The sessions which are available to book now are 45 minutes dedicated to teaching you something new which you can easily recreate at home.

I went for a 'undone' look as I usually tend to go for the glamorous look when I go out. The stylist helped me create a volumised quiff with a fishtail braid. I have tried doing a fishtail braid before but found it really difficult, but the stylist made it look easy.

There were about 15 other bloggers who all got a unique look as part of the styling session. I enjoyed getting to know a few of the other bloggers and their blogs.

We all went away with a packed goody bag and I grabbed a few of the cupcakes on my way out. It was a fun night and it was great trying a look I wouldn't normally choose. See what was in the goody bag here

Nail of the day: Rimmel London Sparkle Every Day

I picked this up in Asda this week as I adored the intense sparkle it contains. The glitter nail varnish promises a medium coverage which is something glitter nail varnishes often lack.  It took a few coats to get the full effect which was a delightful gold base with larger specks of purple glitter.  In certain lights you can't see the gold base so your nails look a little odd and I found it hard to cover the tips of my nails. All in all however it is a lovely polish with a fantastic shine.

Five top tips to keep your hair looking healthy

We all dream of having salon worthy hair that's bouncy and full of shine. To get your hair to the best it can be there's 5 simple commandments you can follow.

Keep your scalp healthy
One of the most important factors in keeping your hair healthy is to invest time into taking care of your scalp. A healthy scalp equals healthy hair and can help to encourage healthy hair growth. Use a stimulating or exfoliating scalp mask for the best results

Boost your nutrition
Nutrition is essential for keep both your body and your hair healthy and strong. Ideally you should try to eat as much of your 5 day fruit and vegetables as you can  for natural nutrition but that isn't always possible. Supplements such as Vitabiotics Perfectil Tablets Healthy Skin, Hair and Nails, 30 Tablets often contain the nutrients your hair craves to grow long without excess breakage.

Use a pre-shampoo deep conditioner
A pre-shampoo deep conditioner will give your hair a rush of moisture that will help to add bounce, shine and elasticity to the hair. Try to use the pre-shampoo once a week for the best results.

Incorporate regular volumising into your hair
You can encourage your hair to become thicker with Trichotherapy. Trichotherapy is a 3 step regime that stimulates the scalp and encourages hair growth, encouraging volume by plumping the hair.

Protect your tresses
Everything can have an effect on your hair, from the weather to central heating. Give your hair the strength it needs to fight extreme conditions by using products that can provide moisture, detangle and protect from heat products.

P.S. Love Matte Long Lasting Lipstick in Femme Fatale

P.S. Love Femme Fatale is a bright pillar box red matte lipstick that is part of the Primark makeup range.

I bought this as part of a mini beauty haul I picked up a few months ago. I adore vibrant red shades and when they're on sale for only £1.50 they're even more attractive.

The packaging for the lipstick is very sophisticated with a gold tube and glimpse at the colour on the bottom.

It has a strong vanilla scent which is nice although there is a slight hint of something artificial about it.

When applied I felt the lipstick was more creamy then matte with a raspberry undertone. The colour was easy to build up but it only lasted a few hours.

This is a great budget beauty product that looks great. Whilst it doesn't last long it's easy enough to re-apply and you're not losing out for £1.50.

Available for £1.50 in all good Primark stores.

Advantages
  • Very pigmented
  • Great budget bargain at only £1.50
  • Buildable colour
Disadvantages
  • Slightly more creamy then it is matte
  • Only lasts a few hours before disappearing completely

10 reasons why you should love January

Many people hate January for the bump of reality it brings after the joyous Christmas period where you've done nothing but celebrate. There's limited daylight hours, you feel like you're completely broke and Summer seems a long way away. It's time to reverse that negative feeling and see January in a whole new light. Here's ten reasons to love January.

Netflix evenings
You can totally sit in front of the sofa in your warmest dressing gown, fleece pajamas and teddy slippers and watch Netflix all night without feeling like you're missing out. It's only dark, cold and miserable outside after all!

Check out the sales
Whilst Christmas may have eaten a large chunk of your money if you have some left over (congrats) you may want to invest in the sales. In January retailers understand people don't have much money to splash so the sales are a great way of drawing people in. Take the chance to invest some money on yourself, even if it's something small, you'll feel so much better for it.

2016 is 367 days to create a new you
It may sound corny but January is the beginning of a new month of a fresh new year and gives you the opportunity to rid yourself of everything that is bad in your life. Start as you mean to go on and leave the mistakes and bad memories in 2015.

A new year means a new holiday allowance!
The best bit about a new year in my opinion is knowing that you have a years worth of holiday allowance to spend as you please. Why not go somewhere you've always dreamed of whether it's Hawaii or the Amazon Rainforest. Lots of travel agencies have fantastic deals at this time of year and you have plenty of time to pay it off. Win win.

Want some love in your life?
January is the perfect time to meet a new partner as singletons want to start the new year by finding someone to love. Online dating sites like Plenty of Fish are a great way to start your venture into online dating.

All your TV favourites returns
You've probably realised by now that the new year brings the return of all your favourite TV programs. Whether you're a Inspector Morse fan or love a bit of Brooklyn Nine Nine, this is bound to rid you of the boredom from too many Jeremy Kyle repeats.

The days are getting brighter
As the month draws on the days and nights are slowly starting to get longer, letting more light into your life. This is bound to make your morning commute a lot easier to handle!

The award season is in full swing
Whether your a Brit awards or Oscar fan, a new year brings all the fun and drama of the award season. Keep your eagle eyes out for any dress faux pas or major meltdowns!

Want that new job? Go for it!
January is perfect if you want a new challenge in your career as companies generally have a open budget and are looking at employing more staff. Review your CV and aim for that job that makes you want to go to work in the morning.

February is coming
By the time January is in full swing, February is just around the corner. What does February mean? Pancake Day. Enough said!

Maybelline New York launches Baby Balm and Blush

The Hype
High in the wake of the popularity of Maybelline's Baby lip balms comes the launch of Baby Balm and Blush.

The multi use product comes in four natural shades; Flirty Pink, Innocent Peach, Booming Ruby and Shimmering Bronze. They offer a sheer pop of colour which is perfect for when you don't want to look too 'made up'.

The Lowdown
I saw this whilst browsing the new section on Boots and thought it really stood out with its cute but simple packaging. I never bought any of the Baby lip balms as I prefer lipstick but duo products are always such good value for money. I chose Flirty Pink as it was the most girly shade and I do love a pink blush. Whilst many blushers are generally perfectly circular Maybelline Balm and Blush is shaped like a ball which I found quite unusual. It has a creamy consistency and has a very light fragrant fruity smell.

The colour is very sheer and when I went to apply it I found the shade to be very translucent. It has a really creamy consistency and gives a dewy barely there colour. When I say barely there, I mean barely there! I applied several layers of the balm to try and get a better colour build up but it doesn't work very well, the colour stays very faint. On my lips I could not see much in the way of colour transfer at all but it did feel very moisturising and left my lips feeling very comfortable. If you have oily skin you may want to avoid this as the dewy look does not go away. By evening my skin was still slightly dewy but there appeared to be no colour left.

I personally am not really a fan of this, I think it's probably better for those who don't like to wear too much makeup or want to avoid the heavy look. I don't like my blusher to be caked on but I do like to at least be able to see it!

I give it 1/5

Advantages

  • Great for a very natural look
  • Duo product so you can save a bit of space in your makeup bag
  • Good if you don't like to wear too much makeup
  • Dewy look
  • Lips are left feeling moisturised

Disadvantages

  • The colour is very faint and the colour doesn't build up
  • If you have oily skin you may want to avoid using it on your cheeks
  • On the lips I could not see any colour change

Bellapierre XII Go Natural Eyeshadow palette review

The Hype
Add a bit of glamour to your look the natural way with Bellapierre Cosmetics Go Natural eyeshadow palette. The palette comprises of 12 shades with a 100% pure mineral content.

Included shades:

  • Frost
  • Sorbet
  • Last Call
  • Femme
  • Catty
  • Utopia
  • Coin
  • Ash
  • Melrose
  • Intrigue
  • Dagger
  • Embellish

The Lowdown
I recently purchased a mystery beauty box and I think this was part of that (not quite sure as they didn't leave a invoice). Whilst I didn't choose to buy the palette I was pleased to receive it to try. Typically Bellapierre sell these eyeshadows as individual pots so it was nice to see they had put them together to form a range of neutral shades. I love eyeshadows, especially pigmented ones and the majority of these shades really tick those boxes. Whilst the shade names are clearly listed on the back there's nothing on the palette to actually indicate what was what which certainly left me guessing. I'm assuming however the shades go from left to right so the white matte shade is Frost and the pink shade Sorbet etc. There are 3 matte shades whilst the rest of the palette appears to have a very high shimmer content. It comes with a double ended applicator; one side has a sponge end whilst the other has a eyeshadow brush. It's good that the palette gives you that choice, especially as the cheaper palettes tend to only have the sponge applicators.

When swatched I felt there was quite good pigmentation in the majority of the shades not including the matte colours. The matte shades were very flat and boring and I certainly won't be using them. For my chosen look I used the gold, brown and pink which are next to each other on the swatch. The pigmentation was quite strong when I applied the shade and by the evening they were still quite vivid and there was very little fall out.

A great palette with lots of choice for different looks and styles. I give it 4/5

Available for £29.99 at Bellapierre

Advantages

  • Has 12 shades for varied looks
  • 100% mineral content so its less harmful to your skin
  • Comes with a duel end brush so you can choose to apply with a sponge or brush applicator
  • Has 9 pigmented shades
  • Long lasting shades

Disadvantages

  • Not sure it's a big disadvantage but some people may find it frustrating not knowing which shade is which.
  • The matte shades are very flat and not very visible at all

January Fashion Wishlist 2016

Winter is well and truly here and it's pretty cold outside! Winter is perfect for dressing up in cosy jumpers, big coats and knit bobble hats. Whilst I'm embracing the new winter trends I  have created my January fashion wishlist with the items I'd love to buy at the end of the month.

Whilst I'm really embracing the comfort factor I think it's important to remember to keep your personal style in mind. I often wear dresses to work so I've made sure I've added a few of those to my wishlist. Do have a look and let me know what you're buying this payday!

1. Penryn knee high boots
These sophisticated leather knee high boots are perfect for adding a little glamour to a low key look. They have a little chunky heel with a high strap. Currently £60 (RRP £90) at Jonesbootmaker

2. Stone faux fur trim hooded biker duffle coat
I recently bought a new coat but I was recently disappointed to hear that it 'creaked' (seriously). I did buy it from Ebay though so that may be the problem. This stone faux fur coat isn't too clingy but still adds shape to the body. It has a faux fur hood and zip side fastening. Also available in grey and navy for £49.99 at New Look.

3. Black ribbed pencil skirt
This ribbed pencil skirt is perfect for wearing with the dark grey fine knit bardot jumper. It can be worn either as work or evening wear. Also available in mid pink. Available for £14.99 at New Look.

4. Black gingham check zip front pinafore dress
I love this dress with its 60s Twiggy style. This dress is perfect for summer or winter as you can wear a warm sweater underneath. It's smart enough to be dressed up and also casual enough to wear for a day down the shops. Available for £24.99 at New Look

5. Grey faux fur collar cape
This wooly warmer is perfect for keeping you cosy when you're out and about. The grey cape has a faux fur collar and tassels around the lower hem. Was on sale for £35, now £28 at Dorothy Perkins.

6. Suki knee high boots
Suki knee high boots are perfect for wearing with skinny jeans for a casual laid back look. The boots are made with soft leather and have a chunky heel with stirrup details and a ankle strap. Reduced from £140 to £42 at Jonesbootmaker.

7. Cameo Rose grey faux fur trim cardigan
This super cute cardigan with fur trim is super warm and cosy for the winter season. You can wear it with pretty much anything be it a dress or a pair of jeans and still look fashionable and chic. Available for £24.99 at New Look.

8. Cream metal trim wrap front cami
I love to make a simple outfit a lot more sophisticated with a cute top. This cami stands out due to the wrap style and metal strap detail.Perfect for a winter date in a country pub by a cosy roaring fire. Also available in dark grey and khaki. Currently £17.99 at New Look.

9. Monochrome stripe bardot neck bodycon mini dress
I don't normally go for dresses that are fully striped but this one really stood out. The striped pattern really stands out and looks quite slimming. Wear it this winter with block heel ankle boots. Available for £15.99 at New Look.

10. Dark grey ribbed fine knit fold over bardot neck top
This super cute grey knit Bardot top is very simple but can be dressed up or dressed down. Wear with jeans or a smart black skirt. Available for £14.99 at New Look.

Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision Eyeshadow Night Sky Review

The  Hype
Max Factor Masterpiece Colour Precision is a collection of shimmery eyeshadows that are designed to last. The 7 shades come with a unique precision applicator that helps you to apply the eyeshadow and give it amazing staying power. Currently available in:

  • Icicle Blue
  • Star Dust
  • Coffee
  • Night Sky
  • Pearl Beige
  • Golden Green
  • Icicle Rose

The Lowdown
It's been a long time since I've seen a eyeshadow with a pen applicator. I saw them a lot in the past and I wasn't the biggest fan as they were often very creamy and pretty much always creased (not a good look). So I was surprised to see this relaunch in one of Boots Max Factor free gifts. The eyeshadow I received was Night Sky, a shimmery smoky grey shade. The eyeshadow is pretty versatile in that it can be worn in a number of ways, on its own as a shadow, underneath a powder eyeshadow or even as a eyeliner on your bottom lashline. It does have a rather offensive smell which I'm not a fan of. The wand has a sponge applicator which is easily maneuverable and the formula has a very creamy consistency.

I was expecting the eyeshadow to feel really sticky and uncomfortable when I applied it but it felt absolutely fine and glided on really easily. Night Sky is more of a light blue shade when on and the pigmentation is okay although it looked a little bare on certain patches of the lid. After a number of hours the shadow remains uncreased and the colour is still really quite strong.

I'm very glad to see this kind of eyeshadow has changed in the last few years, and the formula has much better staying power. The shadow doesn't crease, isn't sticky or irritating and is a pleasure to wear.

I give it 4/5

Whilst the rest of the collection is available for £6.99 at Superdrug I can only find Night Sky on Amazon at £14.14!! (doesn't seem to be available anywhere else)

Advantages

  • Available in 7 shades
  • Shimmery formula
  • Can be used in a number of ways including under a existing eyeshadow, as a eyeshadow or eyeliner
  • Isn't sticky
  • Doesn't crease

Disadvantages

  • Has a nasty chemical smell

Makeup Revolution Amazing Sheer Lipgloss Review

The Hype
If you want shiny low maintenance lips then Revolution Amazing Sheer lip gloss is the goto product.

Available in 10 shades from the clear "Free" to the dark pink "Move A Little Closer" the range has a varied colour spectrum which is suitable to most tastes. Lips are left looking shiny and moisturised without that nasty stickiness you can get with a lot of lipglosses.

The Lowdown

At just £1 I'll start off by saying these are a super bargain! I believe I actually got this in the Makeup Revolution advent calendar where I discovered a lot of amazing products I haven't seen before. The colour I received, "Too Shy", is a very pale pink with amazing glittery gold shine. As you probably know from previous posts I often steer clear from lip gloss as getting hair stuck on your lips is the worst thing ever. I can safely say the lipgloss really lives up to its promise as it's soft, moisturising and completely non-sticky. Too Shy does not have much colour impact when applied and whilst you can see the gloss and glitter up close otherwise it doesn't have a huge effect. I did however think it would be great in brightening up a matte red lipstick.

Personally I would not wear this lip gloss on its own however I think it makes a fantastic top coat on top of a matte lipstick. It is however extremely comfortable and I love the bright glitter content. I give it 3/5

Available for £1 at Makeup Revolution and most Superdrug stores

Advantages

  • Lips are left feeling soft and moisturised
  • Non sticky
  • Available in 10 shades so there is something for everyone

Disadvantages

  • Too Shy is a very, very sheer colour that does not stand out on its own.

L'Oreal False Lash Sculpt and Tightlining Mascara Review and First Impressions

I was browsing Boots the other day and saw L'Oreal had released a brand new mascara - False Lash Sculpt. The new release was a little different to normal as it also had the added benefit of being able to tightline lashes. As tightlining is often done with a eyeliner I was curious to see how it would work with a mascara, and whether I would end up with two black eyes!

Watch on to find out  how I got on!

How to cope with panic attacks

I had that feeling again, building up in my chest, feeling my heart hammering away and the anxiety building up as I realised it was another panic attack.

My first memory of a panic attack was probably when I was 11. I'd just left school, the rain was hammering down it was almost like a monsoon. I started to feel panicked, then my heart started to race and I felt short of breath but I didn't know why. I didn't know it then but I came to realise in time this was a panic attack.

They often come in the middle of the night when I'm snatched out of sleep to this instant grip of terror. As you don't have any control in your sleep this is when it came seem the most terrifying. Often panic attacks can evoke the feeling that something far worse is happening. Your heart is beating faster then you've ever felt it. Anxiety builds so you start to feel sick, you wonder if you're having a heart attack and if this is your final moments.

Over time I started to recognise the symptoms and realised there was a way to cope. You didn't have to let the panic attacks win.

Every time I started to get that racing sensation I would imagine I was in a race. I had 100m to go and my heart was pounding as I needed to finish first. As I envisioned that race and nearing the finish line I felt my heart start to slow and that's when I realised I had the strength to overcome this.

This strategy may or may not work for you, it's not foolproof. It just goes to show however nothing is unbeatable as long as you begin to recognise what it is and your method to face it.

Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Pink Punch Review

The Hype
Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Mini Gloss Stick is a mini gloss pen that gives the ultimate impact at a tiny price. The gloss stick aims to make lips pop with its vivacious colour and 3D lip shine. Lips are left feeling fuller and moisturised without that uncomfortable tingly feeling.

Sexy Mother Pucker is currently available in five shades:

  • Nudist
  • Pink-a-boo
  • Technicoral
  • Pink Punch
  • Purple Rain

The Lowdown
To make your lips look fuller the gloss stick is formulated with pre-peptides and the unique Soap and Glory 3D(TM) Plump Complex. I've never been a fan of the tingly feeling many 'lip enhancing' lip products give. Often they don't work and as I have very thin lips this can be quite a disappointment. For this review I'm testing Pink Punch. The packaging gives the impression that the product is more pink whilst the packaging infers that it is a darker red shade. In reality Pink Punch is a dark berry like shade. Whilst it seems like you don't get much for your money the gloss stick is adjustable so you can push it up to get more product. It didn't glide on as smoothly as I'd imagined but once on it did feel smooth and quite moisturising. It has some colour impact but it is quite light and low key. As promised there was no tingling effect  and my lips did seem slightly bigger. It is surprisingly resistant when eating and drinking and stayed put throughout. Sexy Mother Pucker Mini Gloss Stick is a caring lip balm that gives a little more punch then your typical Nivea product.

I give it  4/5

Get it for £3.50 at Boots

Advantages

  • Leaves lips feeling moisturised
  • Lips seem slightly bigger
  • Low key colour impact
  • Stays put when eating and drinking
  • Doesn't bleed

Disadvantages

  • Tugs a bit when applying

Tried and Tested Budget Makeup: Primark Ps...Semi Matte oil free foundation review

The Hype
There are many foundations on the market that it can be hard to choose what's most suitable for you. Whilst many believe expensive brands like Chanel are the best because of their brand status that is not always the case. Primark now have a full range of makeup in their Ps range including PS... Liquid foundation.

The foundation is specially formulated to give a natural finish with a semi matte appearance. The consistency is lightweight, with a non oily texture and a medium coverage.

The Lowdown
I've tried a fair few foundations including budget and big budget brands and often the lower priced versions can certainly give the more expensive brands a run for their money. The product has a moisturising finish which is great especially for the long harsh winter months.

It comes in three shades, light, medium and dark and is suitable for all skin types. As I'm very pale I of course went for the light shade. I do have a oily t zone so it was good to find that the foundation was oil free. I'll be honest I wasn't expecting a lot from this foundation, as it's often perceived that you pay for quality. I have to say I was very much proved wrong in this case! The foundation was a excellent colour match  and blended in really easily. It did give my skin a luminous glow but didn't accentuate the oilier t-zone area. As you can see from the before and after it also did a good job of covering the majority of the blemishes on my face.

At £2.50 this foundation is brilliant value and really works. It fulfills all of its promises and more. Highly recommended.

I give it 5/5

Currently available for £2.50 in all good Primark stores.

Advantages

  • Covers pretty much all blemishes
  • Brilliant value
  • Gives luminosity without highlighting oilier areas
  • Good colour match

Disadvantages

  • None
