Not wanting to disappoint Makeup Revolution have listened to demand and created their new range of Retro Luxe matte lip kits. Available in 8 shades ranging from the bold blue Magnificient to the more neutral pink shade of Grandee. Each set contains one liquid lipstick and a matching lip liner.
The Lowdown
The new Retro luxe lip kits from Makeup Revolution remind me a lot of the Kylie lip kits. Whilst I've seen a lot of liquid lipsticks, I think Makeup Revolution are one of the first budget beauty brands to release a matching liquid lipstick and liner combo.There are three shades in the new collection that are really out there and not something I would choose to wear (Royal, Glory and Magnificent), and five more subtle everyday shades (Regal, Reign, Grandee, Echelon and Noble). For my review I will be testing out Regal. a subtle red with a hint of orange.
I applied the liner first before colouring my lips in with the lipstick. The liner felt a little dry when I applied it and there was some resistance. It does however have really good pigment and once applied stays on all day. Regal the liquid lipstick is super creamy and melted onto my lips with ease. The shade of the lipstick is a perfect match with the lip liner so there's no mismatch that you might get if you're trying to match two unrelated brands.
Over the course of the day the liquid lipstick felt a little drying and lasted for a couple of hours before disappearing. As I mentioned earlier the liner lasts all day but that does mean you're wearing liner on its own with bare lips - not the best look. It will of course look fine if you take it with you and touch it up during the day.
Overall a nice lip colour with a fair amount of pigment. In terms of longevity the liner outlasts the lipstick which is a bit annoying but can easily be rectified. It's a tad drying but not so much that it's uncomfortable to wear.
