4 top tips on how to declutter your life

4 top tips on how to declutter your life

Do you feel that sometimes life is just too much? If you do you're not alone - nearly 20% of women under 35 feel overwhelmed. Everyday we have around 50,000 thoughts and if you're constantly thinking about the small things this can have a detrimental effect on your well being. So how do you sort it out? Start small and you'll get the motivation you need to start tackling the big stuff.

Have a bag clear out
If anyone has the Marry Poppins of bags it's me. My bag often accumulates everything from receipts, old chocolate bars, coins and around 5 lipsticks amongst other things. Do I need all of this?  Of course not. Often a cluttered bag means you're worried that you're going to be caught short. The first thing you should do is have a clear out and get rid of everything you don't need. Of course there are essentials but you can easily organise them so they're more manageable. Take advantage of the pockets in your  bags and even use pouches to combine things like charges, makeup etc. That way you'll know where everything is and can go straight to it when you  need it.

refresh your friends list to declutter your life

Refresh your friends list
Ever find your diary is so busy you never have time to sit down and think about what's important to you? When you think about the friends and colleagues you hang around do you actually enjoy their company? If you find you're agreeing to every party, event or social gathering you're invited to you may find out you're missing out on time you'd love to spend with genuine friends and family. If you don't want to go simply say no. Think of the top five people in your life and arrange a date to see them face-to-face. When you've met up make sure you arrange a time to meet again so you can fill your time with people you want to see.

Clear your head
When we grow up we have a list of goals we need to achieve by a certain age. If you haven't ticked off children, a great career and your own home by 30 you may feel like you're on the scrap heap. With so many decisions we have to make it can often feel like you don't know which way to turn. In order to get a clear view of your future you need to scrap what society believes you have to achieve - and focus on what you want. Sit down in a quiet place and think of what you actually want to achieve from life - do you want to travel, help others or be successful in your career? Once you've established what you really want you can set steps as to how to achieve it.

sort out your to do list to declutter your life

Sort out your to-do list
To do lists are a great way of feeling  like you've achieved something. If your to-do list is just full of random tasks however you may only get a few done and feel like you're a failure. Whilst you may want to avoid the harder tasks, you're just delaying the inevitable. The tasks will still need to be done and if you constantly procrastinate  you will continue to feel like you're under achieving. What you need to do is switch it up and number your to do-list according to priority. Put the essential tasks at the top and the less essential at the bottom. Make sure you know exactly what you need to do so be specific in regards to the task, and note a time you need to do it by. With a deadline you'll be more aware of what's important and be inspired to reach your goals.
